Sony Handycam DCR-SR46E review

to prepare for evie's arrival in a couple of months, we started looking around for a digital camcorder. we finally settled on getting a Sony DCR-SR46E 40GB Hard Drive Memory Stick(R) Hybrid PAL Camcorder.

features include:

  • 40GB hard disk drive
  • hybrid recording: hard disk drive & memory stick
  • 1/8" charge coupled device (image sensors designed to work like those in the human eye)
  • Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens
  • 40x optical/ 2000x digital zoom
  • Night-shot mode

in terms of looks, the Sony DCR-SR46E isn't the most outstanding. the design is somewhat boxy and the plain-silver finish is quite common among other video cameras. however, the camera is very lightweight and sits well in both my hubby's and my hands.

the camera also comes with a touch-screen interface. i found it very simple and intuitive to use the interface, didn't have to read the manual to figure out what the different buttons and menus do. one thing that's going to bug neatfreaks like my hubby tho is the fingerprints that will end up all over the LCD screen.

we found the video quality to be pretty good, but the still-pictures taken were horrible. but then again we aren't going to be using the handycam for that, we've got our digital camera for that.

all-in-all i feel that we got a pretty good deal getting this camera. will capture some videos and photos later today to show the quality captured by the camera.
